Job Description
Workday's Production Infrastructure team supports an ever growing footprint that spans global public and private cloud installations. Our team is composed of highly skilled Data Center Engineers, System Engineers, and Network Engineers across multiple geographies including New Zealand, Ireland, and the US. We're looking for a seasoned Systems Engineer with a passion towards solving complex infrastructure problems, reducing toil and improving infrastructure-as-code. A strong background in server hardware, operating systems and Linux services will be critical for this role. You will join our fun, creative and talented team collaborating with Engineering, Infrastructure Operations, Security, Compliance and Audit teams to shape and improve our infrastructure architecture.
The Role:

  • Conduct continuous research, analyze, testing and recommend technical and architectural findings in support of open source operating systems.

  • Perform advanced hardware analysis, troubleshooting and performance testing.

  • Participate in strategic planning to support or simplify complex infrastructure operational tasks.

  • Maintain, continuously improve and create seamless workflows for core linux services in Workdays Infrastructure (ie: DNS, LDAP, etc).

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Strong software development (ie: Python, Ruby, etc) relating to automating tasks with tool orchestration (Chef, Puppet, Ansible).

  • In depth knowledge of Linux Operating System (preferably CentOS/RHEL) including Linux utilities and programs.

  • Experience with physical and public cloud computing environments and an expert with one or more of the following: DNS, DHCP, CDN, NFS, SSL.

  • Strong familiarity with one or more of the following Directory Services (OpenLDAP, eDirectory, Apache Directory Server).

  • Working familiarity with Package repositories (Git, GitHub/GitLab), Containers (docker, K8s), CI/CD tools and IaS (Jenkins, Circle CI, Terraform, Kickstart, Packer, AMI’s).
About you:

  • BA/BS degree or related equivalent field experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • 8+ years of hands-on production experience with server hardware and linux services (DNS, LDAP, NFS, etc).

  • Working knowledge of containers, management & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Chef, Ansible).
