About the Role:
As a member of the Global Design and Architecture teams, you will contribute to the development of new space types while ensuring space standard solutions are holistically balanced across architectural, interior and technical design at the scale of space, to objects, to performance. The position requires a proven track record of exceptional design thinking, an understanding of our brand, and a deep passion for pushing boundaries within the built environment. As an Architecture team member, you will help drive the direction of our spatial kit of parts on a global scale.
The Global Design group is an international, interdisciplinary team that includes architects, interior designers, lighting designers, engineers, graphic artists, workplace strategists, and technologists. With this in mind, you must be able to work alongside our other global functional teams in these sectors, bringing a cross-functional mindset that allows us to grow better together. A successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and encourage out-of-the-box thinking, while ensuring our product lifecycle does not lose speed or quality. Particularly important to the role are the oral and written communication skills to articulately express the rationale behind design decisions.
Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Be a contributing member of the Productization team and the larger Design and Product team.

  • Represent the Architecture team within the Product organization at WeWork.

  • Support key initiatives from creation to implementation.

  • Contribute to and execute programs in support of the training and development of team members from Design, Development, and Product Extensions, as required.

Initiative and Project Responsibilities:

  • Support in the creation of new products/systems that increase member experience and illustrate our position as market leaders in the future of workplace.

  • Study, pilot, and work to standardize product improvements and innovations.

  • Work cross functionally to help maintain and support data and analytics tracking to enable better insights into product quality.

  • Support creation of physical data tracking for product remediations and a global product index.

  • Drive changes in our product globally by creating an environment that nurtures, encourages, and enables innovation, but also build off a systematic framework that can create structure globally.

  • Work closely with regional teams to ensure they understand and implement the global standards. Keep open lines of communication with other cross-departmental teams to understand current initiatives and methods of cross-pollinating.

  • Working with the Architecture Director, communicate new standards globally, update documentation and provide strategies for teams to implement.

  • Espouse excellent and efficient communication skills. Excellent communication skills are critical to effective collaboration.

  • Collect feedback from regional delivery/design/execution departments. Provide support and guidance as appropriate and helpful to the regional teams.

  • When requested, communicate to design, development, and operations leadership, and project teams with updates such as the status of project completion, upcoming benchmark goals, potential issues, etc.

  • Provide project and team related insights to the Architecture Director and proactively create tools and processes to achieve workflow and design efficiency improvements within the regional teams.

  • Support the team to ensure that architectural solutions are effectively communicated to the broader company, resulting in proper execution and unparalleled member experience. Ensure that design intent is maintained, from design through procurement, construction, and opening.

  • Attend meetings for the purpose of providing insights and content, participate in internal and external meetings, responsible for ensuring clear and concise actionable agendas and meeting minutes are distributed.

  • Assist in strategies to ensure the overall success of projects, including being on time, on budget, and to an exceptional level of design, operational, or member-experience quality.

  • As subject matter expert in the Global Architecture team, work with other teams to communicate changes in standards, tools, or trainings to regional delivery/design/execution departments (this may include giving trainings to internal and external teams, being available for Q&A, leading workshops to gather information, reviewing regional comments and responding or escalating to global if they require further review.

  • Reports to the Design Environments Director

Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Masters degree in a design or design-related field, including but not limited to Interior Design or Architecture.

  • (Preferred) Professional Licensure in jurisdiction where WeWork operates or constructs property

  • 3+ years professional design experience in high quality commercial or hospitality projects. Mixed-use residential, cultural, and institutional experience also will be considered

  • Experience in all phases of the design process from schematic design through the bid process and construction administration. Technical architectural detailing experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated passion for pushing boundaries in the built environment, preferably at scale.

  • Excellent and concise communication and presentation skills, verbal and written

  • Strong time management skills and demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines

  • Highly resourceful problem solver and quick learner

  • Fluency with industry best practices, building & ADA codes

  • Track record of delivering outstanding high quality design, leading teams on high profile projects

  • Familiarity with budgeting and scheduling

  • Passionate and curious about the built environment. Maintain a desire for knowledge about all aspects of what we do at WeWork and look for ways to contribute your knowledge and learn from others.

  • Proficient in the following programs: BIM (Revit), all things Google, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Creative Suite

  • (Preferred) proficient in the following programs: Rhino, Enscape or similar rendering engines, MS Office, Tableau or open source data analytics software

  • Fluent in English

  • Portfolio must be submitted for consideration
