What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Network Systems team is looking for a Full Stack Developer and systems engineer in the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. As SRE, you will be responsible for the design and development of the web application that will form part of the SRE framework. This application will provide a centralized dashboard to IT executives and business leaders on the performance of various internal IT applications. You will be developing a solution to capture metrics from a 3rd party tool using REST APIs, design of a database to load the data, design of the UI/UX framework, development of the frontend and backend services to provide a modern dashboard that suits the needs of executives as well as IT engineers.
You will also need to have experience in troubleshooting high traffic frontend and backend systems to determine the root cause of latency and be able to fix those issues. You would be expected to know the internals behind how web traffic flows from the web server to the backend, how a page is rendered, the various elements such as DNS, connect/wait/load times, SSL issues and be able to troubleshoot what is causing slow performance. You will also be expected to have knowledge of distributed systems to identify and fix network, system and service level issues. You will need to be highly skilled in automation with Python or Shell scripting so you can automate everything that you fix or build.You will be expected to leverage your leadership experience in setting the charter for the team, managing the individual projects and forming strategic partnerships with peer IT teams.
  • Design and development of a high traffic, distributed, resilient, modern web application framework.

  • Experience in UI/UX concepts and design.

  • Identify and fix issues with scalability, latency, throughput and bottlenecks.

  • Utilize your knowledge of distributed systems to identify and fix network, system and service level issues.

  • Automate, automate and automate.

  • Logging and monitoring setup, be able to analyze logs, identify trends and analytics and use that to drive root cause analysis.

  • Lead opportunities for modern automation through development of RPAs and Chatbots.

  • Partner with the AWS engineering team to develop automation and enable SRE practices in AWS applications.

  • Collaborate across all levels of organization to drive the SRE model.

  • Lead initiatives to continuously refine our on-premise and AWS deployment practices for improved reliability, repeatability and security.

  • Deploy and orchestrate Docker and Kubernetes containers on a Cloud platform.

  • Employ DevOps and agile principles; utilize Jira, Jenkins and Ansible to enable CI / CD of various cloud applications.

  • Provide technical leadership to the team to manage multiple high priority projects in several niche technologies

  • Partner with leadership from IT organizations at the Manager/Director level and form strategic partnerships for proliferation of SRE model

  • Track metrics for SRE adoption, look for opportunities for improvement and drive end business results through benefits from SRE platform

What we’re looking for...

You are a highly skilled full stack developer with a strong background and knowledge in system issues, networking, frontend and backend troubleshooting.You have 50/50 software engineering and systems engineering experience.Youhave experience in AWS, CloudFormation, Ansible, JSON and CI/CD practices. Leadership qualities and prior leadership experience as a technical leader.
You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Four or more years of strong development experience leading and delivering strategic programs.
  • Full stack development experience.

Even better if you have:
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in one of the following: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Technology, and/or other related field of study.
  • Full stack development experience using Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript, Node.JS, Angular 5+ or React.
  • Experience with Python or Shell scripting.
  • Strong experience in Linux, networking, TCP/IP troubleshooting.
  • Experience in troubleshooting web traffic from frontend to backend to identify issues.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as New Relic, Splunk, Piwik.
  • Knowledge of AWS and experience architecting and developing on AWS.
  • Experience with SQL and knowledge of either Oracle or PostgreSQL.
  • Prior knowledge or understanding of the principles of SRE.
  • Experiencewith REST API design and development.
  • Experience with container and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Puppet, Chef).
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment supporting multiple products across the organization.
  • Familiarity with Automation Anywhere for RPAs or Chatbots.
  • Proven technical leadership experience leading and delivering on highly strategic programs.
  • Technical leadership to include mentoring teams, working across organizations and managing end to end ownership of delivery.
