Who We Are:
The Compute Platform serves Twitter engineering by providing a productive, reliable, and efficient compute platform. Our infrastructure underpins most of the services behind Twitter.com, Twitter’s revenue-generating businesses, and a variety of internal infrastructure. Twitter’s 1,000+ engineers use our platform to launch and operate their services on a fleet of over 100,000 physical machines in our data centers and a rapidly growing footprint in the public cloud.
Compute has begun re-platforming from Aurora/Mesos to Kubernetes as a key component of a broader strategy to increase developer velocity at Twitter. Kubernetes will align us to the community making it easier to adopt new technologies within and built upon Kubernetes and enabling a consistent platform to reduce friction in our hybrid cloud strategy.
What You’ll Do:
Lead the Kubernetes Infrastructure team.
Own the strategy for providing consistent Kubernetes infrastructure spanning the data center, AWS, and GCP. Drive decisions on when to adopt managed solutions vs building internally. Drive execution of the strategy to provide a hybrid Compute Platform.
Build strong relationships with internal dependencies and with public cloud vendors and communicate fearlessly with them to build trust.
Build and foster open, collaborative relationships with peer companies and the Kubernetes OSS community. Drive the sharing of our work through blog posts, meetups, and papers.
Who You Are:
You’re an experienced manager of software engineers who believes your success is measured by the success of your team which is ultimately measured by the success of your customers.
You have experience building platform infrastructure at scale, including operating on physical hardware or public clouds.
You believe in providing useful abstractions, clear customer SLOs, and meaningful KPIs, all while avoiding accidental complexity.!
You’re confident in asking difficult questions and challenging your team and dependencies while being highly collaborative and open to input.
Demonstrated ability to grow and lead large software engineering teams.
Prior experience with platform infrastructure.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Consistent track record of shaping and executing multi-year technical strategy.
Experience collaborating with diverse dependencies internally and externally.
Demonstrated history of mentoring and growing engineers with varying levels of experience and skills.
Care deeply about building diverse teams.
