Who we are:
Twitter is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Language Infrastructure team. This team’s mission is to remove language as a barrier to enjoying Twitter anywhere in the world. We enable our users to consume foreign language content via machine translation and work closely with developers, designers, and content strategists within Twitter to create a frictionless experience for managing and translating copy. Twitter is currently translated into 43 languages, which enable us to reach hundreds of millions of users around the world.
What you’ll do: You’ll join the Language Infrastructure team and lead a world-class team of software engineers. We’re looking for a strong technical manager who can guide the team in building a long-term technical vision while delivering on quarterly goals. This will require a balance of hands-on work, team building, and internal collaboration. You will be driving all facets of the company’s Language strategy.


  • Background in infrastructure, product platforms, and data pipelines
  • Familiarity with machine translation and language identification is a plus
  • Familiarity with language platforms is a plus
  • You are passionate about coaching engineers and helping them develop their careers, whether new grads or senior engineers.
  • You have experience in hiring and growing distributed teams.
  • 5+ years of combined experience in full stack engineering
  • 2+ years of experience managing software engineering, distributed systems, or data engineering teams
  • Experience with 3rd party integrations
  • Robust project management skills, including work estimation, prioritization, planning, tracking, and retrospectives
  • Excellent people manager with a record of recruiting, managing, and retaining talent
  • Empathetic, self-aware, and learning-oriented leadership style
  • High-judgement, data-driven decision-maker
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience in any programming language like Java, Scala, or Python
