The Role
This role is a member of the Active Safety Test team with the primary objectives of executing and analyzing commercial vehicle energy system and homologation tests for and in all markets, as well as coordinating overseas team activities, while maintaining safe and reliable performance, and conducting tests in accordance with Tesla test procedures. This position is located in Columbus, OH.
  • Generate test plans based on program plans and executive direction
  • Execute commercial vehicle tests hands-on and in collaboration with 3rd parties
  • Schedule test tracks and dynamometers, prioritize use of resources to meet tight, changing deadlines
  • Configure, maintain, diagnose and sign off test vehicles for safe testing
  • Lead instrumentation of vehicles with data acquisition and automated-driving robot systems
  • Conduct and coordinate homologation tests according to official test procedures, and witnessed by agency officials where applicable, as well as development tests, quality checks and correlation tests
  • Follow Tesla test plans and procedures to record & analyze data, document and report results
  • Coordinate calibration of data acquisition equipment, dynamometer, maintain records and certificates
  • Coordinate design and custom test fixtures and sensors for data acquisition equipment as needed
  • Work on continuous improvement of Tesla vehicle-level and dynamometer test procedures
  • Support development and validation tests in various engineering fields as needed

  • Experience with commercial vehicle testing
  • Experience with commercial vehicle homologation is preferred
  • Excellent data analysis skills, using simulation/modeling tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication of status and results, including writing formal reports
  • Ability to interpret regulations and test procedures in collaboration with homologation team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and 3rd parties
  • Ability to prepare and operate test vehicles for homologation tests
  • Ability to operate and use diagnostic scan tools, scopes, meters, and other test equipment
  • Ability to read wiring schematics and instrument vehicles with driving robots/accelerometers/
  • sensors/etc., and operate data acquisition systems, such as National Instruments or SoMAT eDAQ) for data collection
  • Understanding of measurement equipment maintenance and calibration, upgrades and improvements (mechanical, electrical or software-based) required to optimize resource up-time.
  • Familiarity with dynamometer related hardware and software from companies such as MAHA, AVL, Horiba, Stähle, LTG, Hioky is preferred
  • Experience with MS office tools (Outlook/Excel/Word/PowerPoint), and Adobe products
  • Ability to follow oral, written, email, and text message instructions
