The 4680 Cell is one of the most complex and challenging components designed and manufactured at Tesla. Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Data and Systems Engineer to join the Controls Engineering team to support the ramp of the factory. This Engineer will work with the controls and process teams to ensure that all necessary data system are deployed and maintained in the 4680 pilot plant.
This person will have broad responsibilities and will work to ensure seamless integration of PLCs to the factory’s MES, databases, SCADA systems, and inventory systems. This is an ideal position for someone who has filled this role in another highly regulated industry where data acquisition and analysis is critical.
Responsibilities:
  • Automate analyses and authoring pipelines via SQL and Python based ETL framework
  • Analyze and interpret high volume manufacturing data from various steps of cell manufacturing line to extract useful statistics and insights about the operation
  • Support engineering staff and management in investigations of failures, containment activities, continuous improvement initiatives, etc, in order to drive meaningful improvements to production quality and output
  • Work effectively with engineers and conduct end-to-end analyses, from data requirement gathering, to data processing and modeling
  • Create and maintain standardized reporting tools for the operation, providing results on the health of the business for various audiences, including senior management using SQL, Python, Tableau, Grafana and similar
  • Create and maintain reporting for the operation, interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and providing insights on the health of the business
  • Work closely with controls, process, and quality engineers to identify improvement opportunities (potential gaps between process and system), develop tools that allow for visibility into process bottlenecks and inconsistencies

Requirements:
  • B.S degree or higher in quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Industrial Engineering)
  • 3-5+ years of work experience in data engineering with multiple data architecture paradigms (e.g., SQL, Kafka, Spark, Splunk)
  • Works well under pressure while collaborating and managing competing demands with tight deadlines
  • A passion for data-driven decision making, with a high level of attention to detail and professionalism
  • Be a team player and have the ability to collaborate well across diverse functional groups
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to manage and communicate the health and integrity of the data and systems
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing is a plus where automated assembly is performed and data collected via Manufacturing Execution Systems
  • Understanding of software and database design in order to work closely with a development team to translate business needs into software requirement
  • Knowledge of API communication protocols and DevOps tools
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing
  • Experience with Ignition a plus
