Software Engineering Associate Manager, Factory Firmware Team
The Role

The Factory Firmware Team is seeking a Software Engineering Associate Manager in Fremont, CA. This person will be Fremont’s firmware leader supporting the local vehicle manufacturing operations (all vehicle platforms), overseeing vehicle firmware change control integration, supporting new programs, working between manufacturing & engineering towards common goals, and managing the local factory firmware team. As a leader, you will be leading the Fremont firmware operations and building out the framework to support manufacturing goals, the Global Factory Firmware teams, and the greater Firmware organization. You will be expected to juggle multiple priorities, remove roadblocks to ensure the team is set up for success, working cross-functionally to identify technical solutions, and be hands-on (with the team) to deliver quality solutions in a timely manner. The Factory Firmware Team is the eyes and ears of the Firmware organization within the factory and often have the last say on the integration of new firmware to manufacturing – providing valuable insight and feedback to accelerate development of new software features.
Responsibilities

  • Exercise careful judgement to make daily resource allocation decisions, balancing competing priorities, to serve the needs of the engineering, programs, and production communities
  • Act as a leader and individual contributor, be able to wear multiple hats to support the team
  • Develop the local firmware roadmap to ensure there is a good understanding of milestones, local integration is done seamlessly & of good quality, local operational metrics are met, and efforts fit into the overall firmware & factory firmware strategies
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships, especially leaders in the production, quality, programs, & systems engineering teams to support engineering operations
  • Participate in manufacturing operations and change control meetings to review data, deliver data-driven feedback, educate or train teams on firmware, provide regular firmware updates, and ensure firmware is held to a high-quality standard for our tests and products
  • Drive decisions and countermeasures (short & long-term) based on data and thorough root cause analysis documenting these carefully
  • Influence the end-to-end process of firmware integration into vehicle subsystems within manufacturing
  • Manage a team of local engineers, technical program manager, and technicians (multiple shifts)
  • Foster individual growth providing mentorship, regular feedback, career development and training opportunities, conduct 1:1’s, and ensure individuals are working as a team
  • Participate in recruiting, onboarding and training of new team members
  • Assist the Global Manager and larger Factory Firmware organization as needed to maintain the integrity of the firmware

Requirements
  • BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • Prefer 5+ years of professional/relevant experience (ideally 2+ years in management)
  • Strong experience in leading, collaborating with colleagues, and communicating complex technical concepts to others of varied technical background
  • Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, and critical thinker to produce solutions quickly backed by data
  • Must be adaptable to change and work well under pressure, manage competing demands and meet tight deadlines with strong follow through and decision-making skills
  • Exemplary track record of high impact contributions both as an individual contributor and in a management or leadership capacity
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, dynamically adjusting priorities to meet changing business needs

Preferred Competencies

  • Experience working with new product introduction, process improvements, & software teams
  • Experience working in high volume manufacturing
  • Experience scripting in a common language (Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office, JIRA, & Confluence
