The Role
The Return To Work Manager is part of our Workers Compensation/Workplace Risk team and will provide partnership and leadership to various business units at Tesla including HR, EH&S & Tesla Benefits team. The successful candidate will develop and implement a transitional return to work program as well as support employees returning to work after work-related injuries.
The Return to Work Manager is the focal point for all contact and review, particularly with the injured worker, their supervisor, treating physician, and rehabilitation provider if necessary. This role will be responsible for supervising, defining and creating the transitional modified duty production schedule, partnering with employees to meet work restrictions, and lastly educating employees and their supervisors on the requirements of the Return to Work program/process. This role will also work closely identifying new projects to build effective plans to mitigate risk by analyzing data trends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform case management and coordinate the accommodation process for end-to-end case management. This includes working with the associate, HR, EH&S, supervisors, claims adjusters, workers compensation vendors, and other stakeholders
  • Communicate work restrictions to managers/supervisors to help coordinate modified duty work or a transitional work assignment and ensure compliance with said restrictions
  • Provide support and guidance while performing activities related to short term and long term accommodations for employees at work or returning to work for medical-based accommodations
  • Develop available return to work assignments and provide assignment program monitoring
  • Communicate in writing the transitional work assignment plan or accommodation to the associate and obtain their consent via written agreement
  • Act as liaison between with our third party administrators, HR, EH&S, Legal, Payroll, Benefits, employees and other teams as appropriate
  • Educate employees and HR on complicated aspects of return to work, accommodation, and multifaceted case processes
  • Provide guidance, assess risk, resolve issues, and escalate as appropriate for employees, supervisors, managers and HR
  • Escalate complex issues including inability to accommodate, complex cases, transitional work programs for guidance
  • Maintain program records to ensure accurate and timely information/documentation

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Human Resources Management, or closely related field
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Workers Compensation Claims handling and/or Risk Management/Return to Work Roles
  • Knowledge of US Workers Compensation rules and requirements with a heavy emphasis and background in California and Nevada
  • Knowledge of the Return to Work Process as it pertains to Workers Compensation and other leaves of absences; and of the interplay between the FMLA, STD, LTD, workers compensation, OSHA, and the ADA
  • Knowledge and understanding of disability management and return-to-work strategies,
  • Experience with manufacturing/production workforce and high volume, complex case management highly preferred
  • Experience in providing consultation and training on disability issues
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization, including remote areas and in manufacturing environments
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including effective presentation skills to all levels of the organization
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
