The Role
We are seeking a Sr. Product Liability and Field Performance Product Support Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. This role pays special attention to vehicle accident investigations and customer claim investigations where safety systems, automated features, or vehicle behaviors are in question. This will require close work with a variety of departments and teams throughout the company including Engineering, Service, Legal and Customer Support.
Responsibilities
  • Investigate and respond to field incidents involving Tesla vehicles. Generate incident reports detailing the operation and expected performance of the vehicle’s systems.
  • Provide guidance to Service Centers in responding to customer concerns
  • Regularly collaborate with worldwide service teams to ensure consistent and stable global service operations
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of all vehicle systems and their integration. Understand how each system plays into the overall vehicle performance and customer experience.
  • Coordinate with design teams to perform further root cause analysis with component owners where necessary
  • Develop analysis tools, diagnostic procedures and diagnostic information to ease and speed the review of field incidents


Requirements

  • BS or Graduate degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Mechatronics or Automotive engineering (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in accident reconstruction, automotive safety engineering or vehicle dynamics
  • Strong data analysis and problem solving skills - the ability to analyze, model and interpret data
  • Excellent communication skills - can clearly communicate technical findings to various audiences including Engineering, Service, Legal, and Customer Support teams
  • An aptitude for public speaking (giving deposition testimony) is preferred
  • Understanding of a variety of in-vehicle communication systems (CAN, Ethernet or LIN) is preferred
  • Familiarity with various Driver Assistance System features is preferred
  • Familiar programming in Visual Basic, Python, MATLAB is preferred
  • Strong people skills and positive “can do” attitude
  • Self-starter, motivated, eager to learn and guided by a strong moral compass
