The Role
The candidate which will fill the “Operations Engineering Lead, Paint” role will be responsible for ensuring maximum daily process performance while driving a team to meet factory Safety, Quality, Shop Capacity and Cost targets. The Operations Engineering Lead will lead the Process Engineering, Quality, and Industrial engineering teams, with a focus on what it truly takes to produce the optimum painted vehicle. This position reports to the Fremont South Paint, Operations Manager.
  • Accountability of the Paint process’ impact on key shop metrics: Head Count, Safety, Quality Targets and Daily Production Plans
  • Leads the technical development of the broader operations team
  • Support and meet all business plans for factory capacity & headcount targets
  • Maintain high product quality and manufacturing yield
  • Ensures optimal use of engineering and technician resources to accomplish short term and long term projects to continually improve shop metrics
  • Adheres and promotes the best safety practices and program to reduce overall risk
  • Help with implementation of and continued adherence to Lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives
  • Assess and analyze current practices and drives continuous improvement.
  • Ensure consistency in standards and documentation; monitor and ensure compliance
  • Maintain and improve process control systems
  • Monitor and evaluate product key characteristics
  • Support new product and material introductions
  • Interact with design team to coordinate new model launches
  • Develop, chart, track process metrics
  • Manage and trend process equipment
  • Make countermeasures for timely completion of project goals
  • Interact with Quality management team to contain, correct, and resolve vehicle quality concerns
  • Support and manage continuous improvement activities by benchmarking other organizations for best practices
  • Administer, coordinate, and comply with all Business Management Systems (BMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) requirements
  • Enforce proper material management procedures
  • Leads in the hiring and decision making process for the process engineer and process technician teams

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of prior experience in Manufacturing positions
  • Prior engineering management experience is essential
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Ability to prioritize competing programs in order to ensure the efficient completion of programs
  • Good understanding of standardized processes
  • Ability to foster a close working relationship with team members and management
  • High-level leadership and decision making skills
  • Strong budget management required
  • Skilled at leading, coaching and developing direct reports across a broad range of engineering and technical disciplines
  • Broad experience with lean manufacturing systems and methodologies, including; Tier Accountability, Layered Auditing, Continuous Improvement and Kaizen Activities
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial planning for a large associate team (100+ people)
  • Availability to cover shifts of all schedule for PTO / absences as needed
  • Availability for off-hours calls
