RoleThe Environmental Compliance Specialist specializes in day-to-day compliance assurance management for Gigafactory Nevada lithium ion battery products and vehicle powertrain manufacturing. The Environmental Compliance Specialist provides technical solutions that are creative, thorough, and scalable to a wide range of difficult and complex problems. This role develops and manages tools to track environmental compliance across a broad variety of media and metrics. This individual is comfortable leading without authority, working with a high degree of ambiguity, working tactically and strategically, and building partnerships with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Support implementation of overall strategy for environmental permitting and compliance for Tesla Gigafactory Nevada and support operations

Prepare, coordinate, and supervise the preparation and completion of technical permit application packages and reports

Develop and manage environmental recordkeeping systems

Develop and implement scalable environmental management system solutions tailored to Gigafactory Nevada’s dynamic manufacturing and construction operations

Interpret relevant environmental regulations and lead the development and implementation of compliance action plans as appropriate

Review and manage environmental contractor work to ensure services are performed to applicable regulatory and Tesla standards

Work collaboratively with EHS, engineering, management, and facility staff to plan and complete project activities within budget and schedule

Develop and deliver training on various environmental-related topics to company and contractor personnel

Interface with regulatory agency personnel during site inspections, permit negotiations, and other agency interactions
Requirements-
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering (chemical, mechanical, civil), or related area of study

Minimum 3 years of experience with mixture of private and public industrial Environmental Compliance assurance roles

Experience in environmental fieldwork, and willingness to work outside during all weather conditions

Robust knowledge of Nevada environmental regulations

Internal and compliance audit experience within ISO 14001 management system framework strongly preferred

Experience training and educating manufacturing employees on their roles and responsibilities in environmental compliance

Well organized with meticulous attention to detail
