The Tesla Energy Product and Service Engineering team is looking for a passionate, collaborative, and skilled Failure Analysis Engineering Technician to join the team to support the explosive growth of our Energy fleet. This fleet includes Supercharger, Residential, and Industrial Storage products and is growing at an incredible rate. The Tesla Energy team is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the identification and root cause of design, process, firmware and software failures in our fleet of energy systems. You will work with a team of engineers to diagnose why the power converters, battery modules, digital control systems, heating and cooling systems, and PCBA level components in Tesla’s products occasionally malfunction. This is a lab based hands-on role, and requires attention to detail, curiosity, and the ability to innovate. To be successful, in this role you will need to be skilled at troubleshooting electronic systems, mechanical systems, and computer networks in person and remotely. Responsibilities
- Support the Root Cause Analysis and testing needs of the Tesla Energy organization
- Perform basic to complex electro-mechanical assembly and disassembly work while maintaining a high level of detail and rigor
- Work independently once a task is assigned, making connections with other employees, and working fluidly with the team to achieve great results
- Be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously, interacting with multiple teams
- Typically involves a variety of operations (including troubleshooting and rework) requiring a sufficient understanding of the functional operation of the items assembled as well as the finished product
- Possess a quick and flexible approach to problem solving, task juggling, and collaboration
- Responsible for high quality activities, including self-inspection, and thorough inspection of the process in its entirety
- Be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously, interacting with multiple teams
- Communicates test results, ideas, and problems to supervisor and engineers; able to be part of the solution
- Environment, health, and safety considered in all activities
Requirements
- Basic understanding of mechanical and pneumatic systems
- Intermediate up to engineering level understanding of electrical systems
- Good communications skills, including a command of the English language (both written and verbal)
- Ability to lift 30-50 lbs on a regular basis and maintain a safe working environment
- Minimum one (1) to three (3) years of hands on experience working with electronics (Makers welcome)
- Extensive experience with hand tools, basic power tools, soldering, and instrumentation.
- Extremely proficient at reading schematics and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits.
- Fine electronics probing and solder skills necessary.
- Electrical design experience a strong plus
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00 - $37.00 per hour
