Engineering Technician - Cell Engineering

The Role
Cell Engineering team is responsible for designing and developing all cell performance and failure evaluation methods and equipment. The role requires hands-on building experience and understanding of basic mechanical and electrical concepts and partner with Design Engineers to form a versatile design and build team.

  • Building cell cycling fixtures and prototyping design ideas across all labs
  • Maintain cutting edge, lab and scale testing equipment
  • Root causing failures and equipment issues from first principles
  • Collaboration with other engineering groups inside Tesla
  • Provide careful, detail-oriented documentation during builds, tests, and inspections
  • Instrument and test engineering prototypes, including data acquisition and processing
  • Travel to support deployment, debug issues and maintain equipment


  • Prior experience of building and assembling electrical and mechanical assemblies
  • Prior experience with maintenance of Mechanical, Electrical and Hydraulic tools
  • Experience with student Formula Vehicle, Solar Car, Hyperloop etc.
  • Preferred: Associate degree, with extensive practical experience as an automotive or electronics engineering technician an acceptable alternative.
  • Mechanical fabrication skills, machine shop experience, expert with hand and power tools
  • Knowledge in use of standard electronics lab tools including AC/DC meters, Oscilloscopes, AC/DC power supplies
  • Experience with metrology and data acquisition
  • Strong understanding of physics and engineering fundamentals
  • Methodical and diligent, works with a strong sense of quality and craft
  • Creative approach to problem solving, with willingness to learn and try new things
  • Is self-directing, able to work across the entire organization to collect parts and information to execute job responsibilities
  • Excellent documentation and written communication; proficient using Microsoft Office
  • Warehousing/forklift experience (able to lift 45lbs)
