Role:
Support & coordinate daily work activities ensuring high quality/safe operations in Body Engineering Prototype shop. Engineer Tech will be responsible to lead & direct larger group of Pilot Team Production Associates supporting New Model Pilot + launch schedules & maintain continuity of operations in prototype shop or newly developed work cells, consistently works to optimize process efficiency from beta builds through Ramp up of Vehicle Production. Support T/M growth & development to meet; Safety, Quality, Efficiency + Cost/Innovation goals at Tesla Motors.
Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Shift start-up Pass down Communication; confirm area start up condition & build-plan accordingly by project scope.
  • Lead Team huddles (Start of Shift). Coach/Motivate & Inform TMs of Safety, Quality & Pilot build issues.
  • Conduct quality coaching / performance improvement, communication, confirm efficient manpower distribution.
  • Support S/V to develop, delegate training for new operators & replacements, monitor to ensure progress is timely & effective
  • Ensure Work Instruction information is communicated to T/M level & follow up to ensure content applies and is practical.
  • Confirm T/Ms performing; Quality-checks, verify documentation is complete & revision level is accurate
  • Drive T/M accountability in best-safety practices; Process Ergo, Mech. assist checks, take action to address unsafe operating conditions. Ability to follow through on assignments in diverse and or remote locations. With high direction or self-reliance.
  • Confirm start up after breaks /lunch; ensure accurate part inventories & good 5S at Prototype shop sub assembly lines.
  • Communicate & follow up on next-customer dissatisfaction issues, ensure appropriate & timely countermeasure action.
  • Check production plan vs. actual, work with direct supervisor to adjust workload as necessary to meet schedule needs.
  • Practical working knowledge of; Process sheets, Std. Work, Torque checks, weld tip change, Weld stud check, adhesive application patterns, datum pin requirement, sensor verification schedules & Safety (PPE, Manual & Auto cell Lock-Out).

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college or manufacturing – (related trade school) certification is desired.
  • Previous experience with CMT, MIG and or TIG welding. Ideally working with both steel & aluminum.
  • Has perfunctory understanding of vehicle dimensional / CVIS requirements or experience in body alignment/closures fitting.
  • Training & or practical experience (OJT) in problem solving and root cause identification. + Datum and or shim pack adj.
  • Administrative ability to accurately & effectively format/summarize/complete standard reporting pass down communication.
  • Previous Quality assurance, manual spot gun welding and or knowledge of Automotive aluminum repair work is preferred
  • Experience working with or troubleshooting robot issues and knowledge of robot teaching is a plus.
  • Experience working on Robot, PLC and electrical cabling is a plus
