The Residential Hardware Design team is responsible for developing and maintaining home energy storage and vehicle charging solutions to use clean energy to make sure homes are always powered and vehicles are always ready to drive regardless of what is happening in the outside world. This skilled and motivated individual will keep pushing this evolving industry forward by leading a team of mechanical engineers’ activities which include product concept and architecture definition, safe packing of batteries, electronics integration, liquid and air cooled thermal management, ease of installation, and much more.
Lead and direct mechanical design engineers in full life cycle product development.
Work with cross-functional teams to achieve product performance, aesthetic, schedule, cost, reliability, and quality targets.
Design or perform detailed review of mechanical systems and components including plastic, metal and sheet metal parts, connectors, insulators, wire-harnesses, fasteners, electronic assemblies, and other components.
Perform and lead detailed mechanical design analysis including thermal, structural, design for assembly, and design for test.
Generate and maintain product and component design requirements.
Create and lead the execution of hardware validation plans.
BS or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME preferred).
10+ years relevant work experience including 3+ years management with direct reports.
Deep understanding of the material science of components used in mechanical design (metals, plastics, insulators, connectors, gaskets, etc.)
Deep understanding of component and product failure modes.
Expertise in a wide variety of component fabrication methods.
Experience integrating and packaging electronic assemblies.
Proficiency using 3D mechanical design and analysis tools.
Medium to high volume DFT and DFM.
Thermal system, FEA, or CFD experience.
Experience working on high voltage, high power systems.
Experience bringing products to market which require international safety certifications.
Experience bringing products to market with customer aesthetic requirements.
Previous work in the solar, energy storage, electric vehicle, or electric vehicle charging industry.
Basic understanding of electrical design fundamentals.
