The Role
Lead experiments to better understand the implications of different battery cell design parameters towards abuse testing tolerance. Set specifications for performance to help development of battery cells and packs across a broad product line, leveraging experimental evidence.
Responsibilities
  • Understand different constraints and materials used in designing lithium ion battery cells
  • Develop novel tests for studying various battery properties under abusive conditions
  • Create and manage designs of experiment to enable development of safer and more cost effective battery cell and pack designs.
  • Communicate tradeoffs related to different design parameters and develop/document standards for performance
  • Create standards which help define design directions for new programs.

Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong thermal and mechanical foundation

Desirable:
  • Experience with Matlab, CAD software
  • Measurement equipment experience (DAQs, sensors, etc.)
  • Understanding of basic electrochemistry
  • Experimental design
  • Statistics experience
  • Lithium ion / automotive / grid scale energy storage experience
