The Role
Tesla is committed to hiring and developing diverse talent in all disciplines. This position will collaborate with multiple teams across Tesla to characterize battery materials, determine degradation mechanisms, and optimize cell performance. The candidate will be responsible for multiple, high-impact projects which will involve implementing existing techniques, developing new techniques, and analyzing existing data to rapidly characterize batteries.   • Be a key member of a cross functional team to optimize lithium ion battery performance new and existing cells
  • Start, monitor, and document testing and communicate progress
  • Interpret and quantify degradation modes of various battery chemistries and propose countermeasures
  • Develop new electrochemical/chemical tests to analyze battery materials or parameters, elucidate fundamental mechanisms leading to degradation, and improve cell modeling

  • University degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, or equivalent major
  • Familiar with degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials
  • Some coding experience preferred (i.e. MATLAB, Python, and/or similar data analysis tool)
  • Familiar with chemical analysis techniques for battery materials
  • Ability to learn new concepts and methods, propose design of experiments, and execute independently
