Our Senior Director, Communications will lead communications for Spotify across our Content and Advertising Business Units. The Content and Advertising BUs strive to maximize Spotify’s position as the leading pioneer of audio streaming, focused specifically on podcasting, live audio and advertising. This position will be responsible for strategic external and internal positioning in line with the overall business objectives, goals and audiences for the company. In addition to experience or interest in the world of podcasting, you have a pulse on the entertainment, tech and music landscape and have strong industry and media relationships. You’re curious about new formats and innovative communications tactics, always looking for new and different ways to tell impactful stories. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a reputation for crafting a culture of transparency, collaboration and shared success.
The role may also be at the front line of a diverse range of time-sensitive issues and crisis management situations, requiring a cool head, problem solving skills and outstanding communications skills.
What you'll do
  • Lead and coordinate all communications activities across the Content and Advertising BU inclusive of podcasting, live and advertising, at a global and local scale
  • Podcasting industry communications: Communicate Spotify’s value to the creator audience and our work to connect creators and fans
  • Advertising trade communications: Build Spotify’s profile as a leading advertising platform to brand and marketing trade audiences
  • Executive Comms support and positioning: Provide direct comms support to Chief Content and Advertising Business Officer for internal and external positioning opportunities including media interviews, conference engagement and internal communications. Additionally, implement positioning plans for other BU executives.
  • Crisis Communications and Risk Mitigation: The role includes managing and overseeing short-term reactive communications for the business unit. It requires skills in order to make an assessment of the situation, create a plan and act quickly to get stakeholder buy-in, including developing reactive statements and key messages.
  • Partner with Consumer Communications to set local strategy and implement communications campaigns across all channels
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key media across the entertainment, culture, podcasting, advertising and tech industries in order to drive communication objectives and generate accurate and positive coverage
  • Stakeholder engagement: Engage and drive buy-in from senior level stakeholders at the highest level across the business
  • Lead a high-performing team of 8-10 and support their ongoing professional growth and development
  • Manage PR agency support: provide the brief, direction and ongoing guidance to the agencies
  • This role will be located in Los Angeles, CA.

Who you are
  • 10-15+ years relevant communications experience in entertainment industry PR, consumer PR, digital media
  • Extensive experience leading global communications team with an understanding of and how to approach global cultural differences
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic global PR campaigns
  • A deep love (obsession?!) for music, entertainment, podcasts and technology
  • Trendspotter and consumer of news
  • Possess excellent writing skills and presentation skills
  • Strong project management and agency management skills
  • Motivated self-starter with hands-on attitude with ability to multitask and work in a hectic and extremely fast moving industry and environment
