Spotify’s Licensing Finance team is looking for an outstanding and experienced Manager to join the band. In this fast-paced and exciting role, you will spend your first few months becoming a domain specialist over Spotify’s music royalty model and its centrality within the context of our broader business model. With this acuity in hand, you will emerge as a key finance business partner to our Global Affairs team, supporting Spotify’s business and financial interests across various avenues of external advocacy that span licensing, legal, regulatory, public relations, and communications work. This role is based in NYC but involves global coverage (178 markets and counting), which requires stakeholder support across multiple geographies. Your initial period upon hire will also include parental leave coverage for our Senior Manager who leads the Licensing Finance function, including temporary people management of a team of 3-4.
What You'll Do:
  • Build domain knowledge of Spotify’s royalty model and broader financial context to support dealmaking and external advocacy efforts led by our Business Affairs, Government Affairs, and Legal functions
  • Perform detailed financial modeling and data analysis using a variety of analytical tools, including “traditional” spreadsheets, the team’s modern and ever-improving Python-based model, and Spotify's broader BigQuery (Google Cloud) environment
  • Lead the internal financial review and approval process for licensing agreements, legal filings, and regulatory submissions by ensuring that documents align with and represent Spotify’s best interests across financial, accounting, economic, and investor relations considerations
  • Partner closely with our Legal and Accounting functions on interpreting, implementing, and tracking financial terms and considerations across our universe of global licensing agreements and their impact on new and ongoing business initiatives
  • Apply your analysis know-how and project management skills to drive the formulation and delivery of impactful financial recommendations for senior leaders to act on, ranging from capital allocation to business model optimization to financial risk mitigation

Who You Are:
  • 8+ years of relevant financial modeling experience in a complex and matrixed business environment
  • Familiarity with financial statements is a must; exposure to SaaS and/or content licensing business models preferred
  • Experience managing small and dynamic teams, including coaching and mentoring individuals in developing their careers
  • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills with a deep understanding of model architecture, formula efficiency, pivot tables, and macros
  • Prior experience with Tableau and SQL is a plus, though you will be required to eventually learn and apply these skills on the job
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, focuses on generating results, and willing to "roll up their sleeves"
  • Experience distilling complexity into articulate narratives that cater to diverse audiences, especially those who are not quantitative or technical
  • Intellectually curious, a creative problem-solver, able to stay organized in a highly cross-functional setting, and proactive in your approach to learning and execution
