As Production Counsel and part of Spotify’s Legal Affairs team, you will counsel and provide legal support to our US content development and production teams on a variety of matters, with a focus on providing day-to-day podcast production legal support across Spotify’s studios. You should have a deep understanding of content production business and legal issues. You will be responsible for day-to-day legal matters arising during the course of podcast production, including providing legal counsel and support to production creatives and other key stakeholders on potential risks and other production-related issues. What you'll do
  • Draft and negotiate all forms of development agreements, rights agreements, talent agreements, release forms, and other production-related agreements for fiction and non-fiction podcast programming across a variety of formats and genres.
  • Provide day-to-day production oversight and legal support across Spotify studios, including identifying legal risks and providing legal advice to producers and creative executives throughout the life cycle of a production.
  • Advise on copyright issues, chain-of-title, content clearances and defamation, privacy, and right of publicity issues.
  • Conduct script vetting and pre-publication review.
  • Counsel and collaborate with cross-functional partners (e.g., employment/labor, finance, tax, marketing) on original content-related matters.

Who you are
  • Law Degree (or equivalent) from top-tier law school.
  • Registered member of the NY or CA bar in good standing.
  • At least 5+ years of experience working in an entertainment law firm and/or in-house legal department at a major TV, Film, or Podcast studio, network, or production company.
  • Expertise in multifaceted content development/production from short-form to features.
  • Excellent analytical and written/oral communication skills.
  • Creative problem solver, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Collaborative and solutions-oriented team player.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Possess a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving, with the ability to effectively counsel business teams by providing, pragmatic, commercial and timely advice.
