Permanent The Spotify search team is looking for an experienced Engineer Manager to join our team. We take full responsibility for Spotify search platform, which serves 356 million users in 178 markets. You will join a team where everyone shares a common interest in scalability. Together we try to find new ways to create a great Spotify experience for all our users at all times. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences audio.
Our organization strives to make every user session amazing through personalization and discovery. In this role, you’ll work primarily with our teams based in Europe, who are focused on search services.
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Search teams responsible for building our search platform. A platform that empowers many other Spotify teams to innovate, experiment and iterate quickly on search at scale.
What You'll Do
  • Make a significant impact on one of Spotify’s most central features.
  • Be a technical leader within the search team and within Spotify in general.
  • Coordinate technical projects across search teams within Spotify.
  • Take operational responsibility for the services that are owned by your team, making sure the services are up and running.
  • Build a highly effective team of search engineers, and lead through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and hands-on career development.
  • In partnership with a product manager and team of engineers, build a stack that creates a great search experience that delights users across Spotify.
  • Support the engineering team in formulating the technical vision and strategy.

Who You Are
  • You have 10+ years of professional experience working in a product-driven environment, out of which 3+ years are in search products.
  • You’re familiar with the industry trends, keep up with the latest product offerings, and understand existing solution’s trade-offs.
  • You care about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and responsible experimentation.
  • You possess experience mentoring and growing collaborative teams.
  • You have previous experience developing production-scale systems.
  • You are either an experienced manager or a senior individual contributor with solid people skills and leadership experience.
  • You have a deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms.
  • You have the ability to drive change and decision making in heterogeneous groups.

  • Working hours? We operate within the Central European and GMT zones for collaboration and ask that all be located in that time zone.
