This Senior Director, Commercial Legal position will perform an integral role in the company’s growing legal department, with oversight and responsibility for a variety of matters impacting the overall Legal Department, with a particular emphasis on Commercial Legal transactions in AMER. The principal responsibilities of the position will be overseeing, growing and managing a team of commercial sales attorneys and contracts managers whose primary focus is to support and close revenue generating sales deals. The Senior Director will be expected to have a detailed knowledge of Tableau’s product offerings and sync on a regular basis with multiple company stakeholders, e.g., sales, operations, licensing, security and privacy, human resources, and finance on issues impacting the global sales teams. Additional focus for the role will be overseeing legal sales trainings, corporate integration work impacting the commercial legal team, template updates, and creation and vetting of new licensing business models.
This is a senior role in Tableau’s Commercial Legal organization and the Senior Director will be expected to sit on various Steering Committees and advise and counsel executive management on strategic issues related to Tableau’s business. Due to the Senior Director’s company-wide visibility and job scope, the role must become generally familiar with Tableau’s ecommerce initiatives/issues, and security and privacy practices as well as other areas that impact Tableau’s business.
Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate commercial contracts, including agreements relating to technology licensing (on-premise software and SaaS / cloud based services), professional services, direct and indirect distribution (OEM, Reseller, Referral, Systems Integrator, Technology Partner, and Teaming agreements) as well as any other commercial agreements.
Manage a team of attorneys and non-attorney professionals supporting the AMER commercial legal team.
Seamlessly collaborate with the legal team and cross-functionally with the company’s global sales, operations, engineering, information technology, human resources, marketing, and finance groups to understand and ensure consistency of agreement terms with the company’s business, financial, and risk management objectives.
Advise internal clients regarding legal and business issues, including identifying, managing and communicating risks and opportunities associated with specific agreements.
Proactively communicate with legal team; provide diligence and insight regarding the company’s existing agreements, policies, and processes, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Consistently anticipate, proactively evaluate, and timely inform management regarding potential risks regarding contractual, regulatory, compliance, financial, and legal matters, including proposing mitigation strategies in connection therewith.
Contribute to ongoing process improvement and problem solving of the legal team.

For Colorado-based roles: Minimum annual salary of $170,000. You may also be entitled to receive bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits.
15+ years technology transactions experience in fast paced, agile organization.
15+ years commercial agreement / license drafting, review, negotiation, and analysis experience.
Experience managing a high performing team.
Developed business acumen, with ability to understand the company’s business and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in various settings.
Experience communicating with C-Suite and Executive Management.
Strong skill set working with Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated ability with Tableau and Salesforce desirable.
JD and Bar admission or equivalent qualifications.
Well organized, detailed oriented, and adept in a fast paced environment.
Law firm and in-house technology company experience preferred.
