GDS (Global Data Sciences) is a PayPal unit specializing in development of data solutions as well as data-science, Machine-Learning and AI solutions for multiple domains across PayPal - Risk, Fraud, Credit Sales, Marketing, Customer-support, Product experience, Global Operation and more. We use data, technology and innovative machine learning algorithms to drive business results and improve customer experience.
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to be part of the GDS Engineering Team. The candidate will be responsible for analysis, design, development and testing of application code. The candidate will interact with global cross-functional teams to address complex business requirements. The individual should be self-motivated, possess creative problem-solving skills as well as the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
In this role, the individual will be part of the engineering team within GDS and have the following responsibilities.
  • Participate and collaborate with product managers and cross functional teams in the organization to understand the business requirements and to deliver solutions that can scale.
  • Drive the execution of the project in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Own & manage data solutions for business verticals.
  • Applying creativity, innovation and out of the box thinking.
  • Proactively anticipating problems and appropriately communicating to the team and management in a timely manner.
  • Adapting quickly and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to deliver with high quality from coarse grained requirements
  • Be a Mentor for the junior members in the organization and foster a collaborative culture within in the team.

Job Requirements
Required Skills:
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 6-8 years of experience in the IT industry, experience building data driven applications.
  • Expertise in Big Data, Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Kafka, Spark-Sql, Sql, Scala.
  • Expertise in both batch and streaming data processing at scale.
  • Strong experience handling large data sets, building efficient data pipelines, triage issues.
  • Advanced Shell scripting experience.
  • Java/Python or any programming language expertise is desired.
  • Ability to build tools and capabilities to enable automation and reduce TTM
  • Experience with data architecture and data modeling best practices
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Translate business requirements to technical specs and execute
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to take initiative to contribute beyond basic responsibilities
