As an Engineering Manager on the Credit Platform team, you will help build and enhance a suite of tools that allow our US and international Credit customers to apply for and use a credit line. We need you to assist us in developing high quality, high performing, and secure data integration and ETL processes and participate in all aspects of the development including analysis, design, coding, security, testing, and production releases. You will be delivering new features, reacting to customer feedback, driving quality, and ensuring compliance. You'll work closely with our Product team in an agile environment to bring features from conception to launch. Furthermore, you will participate in design reviews to ensure quality and shared knowledge and collaborate with other teams across Credit to ensure transparency and effective delivery.
Job Description:
  • The candidate will be expected to jump in as a leader for their team. Ample ramp-up time and support will be provided for the candidate to come up to speed on the PayPal environment and PayPal Credit domain – but there is an expectation that the candidate will be a self-starter and drive their own education.
  • Manage 8-10 person ETL/Data engineering team autonomously with limited guidance from management.
  • Partner with the team’s tech lead to drive the domain's architecture and technical direction, and working work with the product team to clarify requirements, facilitate discussion, and track implementation and release.
  • Ensure best practices and standards are followed in design, coding, testing, and implementation of new development, optimization and bug fixes of existing processes, delivering efficient, reliable and scalable solutions on time.
  • Collaborate with teams across PayPal as well as external partners.
  • Manage the day-to-day planning and operations of technical resources schedules, ensuring deadlines are met and continuity in production support.
  • Perform light Product Owner-related work, including creating & prioritizing user stories, working across internal and external stakeholders and the team to gather/translate business requirements, etc.
  • Work effectively in an Agile/Kanban/scrum environment, taking on some or all of scrum master duties, such as leading daily Agile ceremonies, managing user stories, and helping guide removal of impediments.
  • Develop short and long-term strategic plans to meet current and future Credit platform data engineering requirements.
  • Establish SWAGs to help assess, plan, and communicate deliverable timelines to stakeholders
  • Mentor and work with individuals on setting goals and growing their careers; give regular feedback towards their performance to those expectations; have hard conversations with teammates in an open, honest, and direct way when needed.

  • Provide clear feedback to Credit Platform leadership to help guide the proper execution plans.

Job Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in providing technical leadership or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in ETL or data-driven work (i.e. database development, analytics, BI).
  • Experience in software development lifecycle.
  • Highly comfortable with data and making data-backed product decisions.
  • Experience writing and interpreting database SQL statements.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Solid problem solving, time management, and organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
  • Self-driven and highly motivated with the ability to manage ambiguity and create clarity for the team.
  • Experience in data warehousing, data modeling/architecture, database development, data analysis, profiling, reporting, governance, quality, cleansing, and/or standardization.

Additional Potential Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Fiserv (FDR), TSYS, or credit data.
  • Experience in the Financial Services or Banking domains.
  • Experience with job scheduling tools .
  • Understanding of Informatica (or other ETL tools), Control-M (or other job scheduling tools), or cryptography.
  • Familiarity with COBOL copybooks..
