Job Description Summary: PayPal’s Global Technology Education team is looking for an instructional designer. This team has a global reach and stays on the cutting edge of everything going on with our internal technologists. This position will focus on analyzing, designing, and developing high-quality training content for technical learning programs for PayPal’s internal technologists.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with GTE program managers, GTE instructors, and PayPal subject matter experts (SMEs) to organize content into deliverables that can be used in instructor-led trainings (ILT), as online trainings (OLT), and/or documentation.
  • Design deliverables that meet the PayPal branding guidelines and the GTE quality standards for accuracy and functionality.
  • Research and build knowledge about products, services, technology, or concepts to be taught in a technical training program.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the audience and the training materials required by meeting with colleagues and working with managers to discuss technical problems.
  • Determine the clearest and most logical way to present information and instructions to enhance learner retention and comprehension.
  • Apply adult learning principles and systemic instructional design to create learning content that best fits the needs of the learner. (Focus is heavily on online content but could also include classroom, virtual instructor-led, and blended-learning content.)
  • Move content through development, editing, and iteration process to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Assist in maintaining GTE-created and owned materials, content, courses, and documentation in an on-going basis.

Basic Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the growth and success of PayPal technologists. Candidates will have some experience in designing, developing, and implementing training, basic curriculum, tutoring, or teaching classes. They will also have the following attributes and qualifications:
  • Experience assisting with or working on curriculum development or creating learning modules.
  • Experience reviewing curriculum, training materials, or online content.
  • Familiarity with SCORM, online learning, learning technology, instructional, graphic, and/or web design or development skills.
  • Understanding of design basics and ADDIE.
  • Understanding of adult learning theory and principles.
  • A minimum of three years as an instructional designer creating content for a developer audience in a “large” organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. This includes skill in collaborating with subject matter experts and managers to help write, design, develop technical content projects.
  • Able to work with remote teams across various time zones (primarily North America, India, and Singapore)
  • Portfolio and/or eLearning sample are required at interview.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing training materials and content to include creating instructor-led materials, online/e-learning modules, job aids, online tutorials, multimedia products (video, graphic, audio), and other training materials.
  • Ability to apply adult learning principles and incorporate this into curriculum design and development.
  • Professional experience using e-learning software (Articulate, Captivate, or similar), Cornerstone LMS (or similar).
  • Experience using video editing tools (Final Cut, Adobe Premier, After Effects, Camtasia or similar).
  • Familiar with using data collection, research, and analysis to assess project outcomes and improve individual and organizational performance.
  • Experience working with highly technical organizations.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, a fast-pace, and a willingness to speak up and ask questions!
  • Bonus points if you are highly technical yourself – can you do some programming?
