Job Description Summary: About the team: The Commerce and Payments Platforms team is responsible for building solutions and platforms used by all PayPal’s merchants – from SMBs to Enterprise, Channel Partners and Marketplaces customer segments. Our biggest focus is on large customer segments, and we build applications, services and platforms that allow PayPal customers to accept payments globally across all channels, including the Commerce Platform for Enterprises (, Commerce Platform for Platforms and Marketplaces (, Braintree platform (, Hyperwallet platform (, among many other responsibilities.

About the role:
You will be part of Payments Engineering team which is powering 300M+ consumers and 25M+ merchants across the globe. The incumbent will drive technology convergence to achieve better uniformity and less fragmentation in our technology stack, driving product development effectiveness and productivity up, allowing development teams to do more with less effort.
The ideal candidate will have a deep technology background, strong platform thinking, passionate to focus on hard technical problems at scale, and ability to collaborate with many teams and stakeholders to move big rocks forward. This position is responsible for providing leadership, direction and expertise to engineering team with responsibility for all aspects of engineering in agile delivery model
Work with Product, Platform and Engineering leaders across multiple organizations to identify the most valuable areas of Payments tech stack convergence, setting up vision, plans, KPIs, measuring progress and driving execution to advance key valuable initiatives quickly, reducing risk on critical projects by advancing our technology stack.
Skillset and requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Track record leading, developing, and delivering significant, complex software projects within complex organizations.

Strong technical background, with:
  • Expertise in designing large scale distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in managing cloud based large-scale infrastructure.
  • Experience building solutions on the Cloud (ideally GCP and AWS).
  • Experience designing and building systems with Docker containers and Kubernetes.
  • Demonstrable and in-depth experience with Java stack. Ruby on Rails very desirable.
  • Some experience with JavaScript and Node.js is highly desired.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems internals and administration.
  • Established experience with monitoring/logging tools and best practices.
  • Experience in software release lifecycle with modern distributed version control (e.g., git).
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, including Extreme Programming practices like Iterative Development, Continuous Integration (and Deployment) and Test-Driven Development.
  • Great analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong influencer and strong communicator, both written and spoken.
