The Growth organization is responsible for continuously improving the customer lifecycle to better attract and retain members. We are looking for a product-focused UI engineering leader who is passionate about customer experience and building adaptable, inclusive teams. You will be part of a cross-functional group of product managers, designers, data scientists and engineers who work on the following aspects of our customer experience:

  • Attracting new members - we are always looking for ways to attract new potential members to our website and apps. This includes making some content free outside of our paywall, or trying big events to generate buzz. We also make it easy for existing members to refer their friends to Netflix.
  • Evolving the Netflix front-door - the first time any new visitor launches one of our apps or lands on a part of our website is an opportunity to get them interested in how Netflix could fit into their life, and the breadth of entertainment we have to offer.
  • Improving signup flow conversion - once someone has expressed interest in signing up for Netflix, they must create an account and provide a way to pay for their subscription. This signup funnel is an opportunity to continue to educate the prospective member, but also minimize friction in getting from zero to streaming.
  • Adapting our pricing model - we have a tiered pricing model that we continue to evolve to meet the varied needs and price preferences of members around the world. As we approach 200M paying members and beyond, small changes to our pricing model have a significant impact on revenue and retention.
  • Enabling account access - once you have a membership, we work to make it easier for members to log in to Netflix across a wide range of devices, keep their account in good standing, or even cancel their subscription if they want to take a break.
  • You will lead a team of engineers that work on these experiences across the web, Android, iOS and TV. They develop new variants of the user interface (both large and small) to help us learn what is better for our users and our business.
The core responsibilities of this job include:
  • Inspire and evolve a team of high performing user interface engineers who partner closely with product managers, designers, data scientists and engineers to build and deploy a wide range of product experiments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders (Managers to VPs) across every discipline.
  • Identify business, technology and organizational trends and opportunities that others may miss, both inside and outside your primary domain.
  • Continuously increase the talent density on your team, by both hiring fresh new perspectives and enabling the growth and development of your people.
  • Build out a cohesive management team who will help make your organization even better.
What sets you apart?
  • You are a thought partner to your business stakeholders and seek to influence the product direction. Your ideas are actively sought out by Product Managers (PMs). You can take a conceptual idea and transform it into an actionable test that is both feasible and meets business needs.
  • You understand and anticipate business needs. You not only understand macro business trends, but also know how to apply those in setting your team up for success in both the short term and for the next 2+ years.
  • You can effectively prioritize and make tough trade-offs. You seek to understand other parts of the business and their limitations as well as where product sensitivities lie. You balance these components and make tough calls on where to cut scope vs. invest more heavily, and how to make resourcing trade-offs across multiple PMs.
  • You have a passion for the customer experience. As the most senior UI engineering voice on the cross-functional experimentation leadership team, you are always thinking about the user experience implications of what your team is experimenting on.
  • You embrace adaptability and flexibility. You are always looking for creative ways to keep your team nimble, and foster a culture that embraces change.
  • You enable excellent delivery. You are always challenging your team and cross-functional partners to improve the way in which we all work together in pursuit of our shared objectives.
  • You establish and reinforce a clear vision for your team. You set and reinforce a clear long-term vision and help your team connect their day-to-day action to the bigger picture.
What leadership skills are important to us?
  • Thoughtful people management - you must be thoughtful and intentional in how you go about identifying, growing and managing the talent on your team. This includes both IC engineers and other people managers.
  • Inclusion and empathy - your direct team and cross-functional partners all come from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. As the leader of the team, you set the standard for inclusivity on multiple dimensions, and lead with empathy to help your team work through challenging situations both professionally and personally.
  • Clear communication - clear and direct written and verbal communication are a must for any leader at Netflix, and especially so for senior leaders. You can take complex concepts and reframe them so that different audiences can understand them.
  • Strong judgement - a key element of our trust-based culture is relying on leaders to apply good judgement to the numerous decisions you make in any given day, month or year. When you make mistakes, you learn from them and share them with others so that we all can learn.
