We are redefining how silicon, hardware, operating systems, and experiences come together as a business, a product experience and as a set of innovative technology presented to app developers. As a part of the Windows Client Silicon Planning, Co-engineering team you will work closely with silicon partners and diverse internal groups to drive long-lead operating system (OS)/silicon strategy as well as holistic management of Windows Client focused on engineering deliverables.
As a program manager on our team, you will lead silicon planning and co-engineering with one or more silicon partners. You will influence the vision of Windows-based devices by collaborating and working closely with several technical teams and disciplines at Microsoft as well as with silicon partners to help impact end-user experiences to be delivered one to three years in the future, thereby becoming an industry steward. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of technical problem solving, customer and partner empathy, collaboration, passion for delivering end user-focused experiences, and an appetite to learn about the intricacies of silicon partners’ hardware. You will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, resolve deep design, business and technical problems, while working with individual contributors and senior managers across diverse groups to influence for impact. Responsibilities
  • Drive short-term co-engineering execution
    • Holistic and diligent management of joint co-engineering investment areas with silicon partners for each OS planning/development semester, and execution associated with them. This includes tracking of joint investment areas, driving cross-team clarity on areas that have gaps, telemetry-driven quality, silicon bring-up (early enablement of new OS/silicon features on pre-production/prototype hardware), hardware allocation, high-priority code defects, flighting pre-release drivers, approving private Windows builds, silicon partner business guest access, and coordination on tools, infrastructure, and source code sharing.
  • Plan long-lead silicon strategy
    • Drive efficient and productive engagements with Microsoft and silicon partners’ engineering leadership to identify joint investment areas from inception to market.
    • Drive Microsoft internal consensus with engineering leaders, as part of OS planning/development semester rhythm (reviewed about two times a year). This includes a deeper understanding of silicon partner and OEM device roadmaps and dependencies on OS engineering deliverables, in collaboration with the Ecosystem and Surface teams.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in software, firmware, or hardware program or product management.
  • Ability to articulate product vision, drive direction for diverse stakeholders across multiple disciplines, influence engineering decision-making, and understand dependencies both internal stakeholders as well as silicon partners
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-team collaboration skills
  • Ability to multi-task across teams, organizations, companies, and disciplines to facilitate conversations to drive silicon and OS strategy as well as track co-engineering execution per current planning/development cycle for Windows Client
  • Ability to efficiently solve complex problems, independently and in collaboration with peers
  • BS degree in computer science, computer engineering, related field, or equivalent experience
