The Office for the web suite experiences and insights team is looking for a motivated Principal Software Engineering Manager to help Microsoft teams immerse in understanding, protecting, and empowering the customer via data and a focus on fundamentals. We deliver innovative modern data solutions and services which enable new Office for the web experiences to be delivered with safe velocity, intelligent analysis, and richly informed hypothesis-driven agility while delivering on our pillar of customer trust through commitment to privacy. Driving business success through experimentation with best of breed systems to measure customer engagement, reliability, insights and satisfaction. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will have the ability to impact millions of people daily, shape the future of our telemetry systems and ensure that Office for the web has world-class fundamentals that represent the true user experience as you coach, model and care for your new team of engineers. You will develop your team’s capabilities through work item assignments and growth-focused feedback and will be expected to deliver production functionality on your team from design through development, validation, deployment, adoption, and long-term sustainability, modeling a customer-centric approach. You will focus on building an amazing team culture that values diverse viewpoints and work with partner teams across Office and Microsoft to deliver success. You will be an active member of the web suite and insights leadership team and part of the extended Office Shared leadership team.

Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include the following:
  • Collaborate with other members of the web suite and insights management team
  • Own and deliver complete features, including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, and shipping
  • Mentor and grow strong talent, though past management experience is not a requirement
  • Work closely with other disciplines (program managers and data scientists) to shape the product using data insights
  • Care deeply about team culture and creating a friendly and helpful engineering team within the larger Office organization.
  • Foster a culture of being agile, innovative, team-oriented and customer-focused
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Development experience in C++, C#, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript/React
  • Experience in highly scalable web services, data processing, near-real-time systems and “big data” problems
  • Strong problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience as mentor or project lead; previous management experience is a plus
  • Outstanding cross-discipline and cross group collaboration skills
  • Deep passion for customers, design thinking, and data analysis
