The Cloud + AI product group builds and operates Microsoft’s Azure Cloud Computing platform (servers, storage, networking, databases, and application services) and Artificial Intelligence services (tools and higher-level services around perception, knowledge and cognition). The charter of the Microsoft Cloud Data Sciences team is to foster a data-driven culture; to encourage and enable the entire organization to make more informed decisions through data. In support of this mission, our Analytics & Inference team works closely with engineering, marketing, finance, and business leaders to identify opportunities for improving the customer experience and accelerating the growth of our business. We perform ad hoc analyses of historical data to understand salient trends, deliver standardized views of business performance, develop models to predict performance and recommend actions to be taken, and run experiments to prove that desired outcomes are being achieved. o Set the vision, drive prioritization, and guide technical approaches for the team.
o Hire and develop top talent - Build and cultivate a highly functioning team of data scientists.
o Manage relationships with product and business leaders across the organization to understand objectives, identify opportunities, and inform data-driven decisions.
o Create and maintain roadmap of team milestones and deliverables. Engage in planning and collaborate closely (with Data Engineering, ML and PM) to deliver complex projects.
o Identify process improvements to increase quality, accelerate delivery, and reduce cost.
o Lead the development of business success measures for our organization and drive accountability through our team and our partners.
o Serve as a leader within the organization by creating clarity, inspiring others, and delivering with high quality.
o 6+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, or data driven business strategy.
o 2+ years of experience managing data scientists. Demonstrated experience as a strong organizational leader.
o Functional knowledge of cloud computing and online services business models, including business, technical, financial, and operational measurements.
o Strong analytical ability; problem deconstruction, statistical thinking, and data validation.
o Statistical rigor to design and analyze experiments.
o Proficient with T-SQL and Excel. Experience with Power BI, Kusto/Azure Data Explorer, Python and/or R preferred.
o Experience applying learnings from data analysis and driving actions that optimize the customer lifecycle: acquire, engage, monetize, retain.
o Strong stakeholder management, clear and concise communication, effective prioritization. Adept at influencing across organizational boundaries, fostering effective engagement models.
o Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to synthesize complex problems/scenarios into easy-to-understand concepts.
o Ability to articulate the big picture and deliver compelling presentations to both business and technical audiences.
o Highly collaborative and effective in rapidly evolving environments.
o Creative, innovative, and organized.
