Trust & Safety Specialist, Food Safety (Contract)

We are looking for a motivated Food Safety Specialist (Contract) to help grow our Food Safety Team. Food safety is one of several branches within the Trust & Safety organization and dedicated to ensuring the health and safety of our customers. This is a unique opportunity for someone who has a food safety background and is willing to engage with cross functional teams to build a strong food safety team in a fast-growing start-up!
Our Trust & Safety team takes a data-driven, customer-first approach to identifying patterns of non-compliant activities, and implements policies and countermeasures to mitigate safety risks. In this role you will be responsible for executing on processes critical to ensuring the Instacart platform remains safe, and stable for our shoppers, customers, and retail partners.
The role will focus on all operational aspects related to food safety at Instacart: product recalls, critical food safety escalations, temperature & insulated bag monitoring and several more areas as the team continues to grow. You will be working closely with the team Associates and Lead in executing and optimizing the operations.
  • Execute of day-to-day Food Safety workflows and engage in process improvement projects and policy development
  • Positive attitude and fortitude to work through ever-changing and dynamic operational conditions
  • Strong communication and writing skills with strong attention to details (ex. grammar and tone)
  • Ability to multitask, organize and work with rapidly changing priorities
  • Conduct investigations to detect misconduct and behavior that raise food safety concerns
  • Must be able to work on weekends and have positive attitude to support team work in dynamic operational conditions
  • Proficient with excel/google sheets
  • Basic knowledge of and understanding of SQL is a plus

  • Bachelor's degree in food safety/quality or environmental health & safety preferred. 2+ years of practical experience in food safety or similar discipline.
  • Experience in customer service or technical support in retail or CPG companies is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of food safety best practices

  • Ability to make critical and sensitive issues quickly in a fast paced environment
