Director, Global Corporate Security

Instacart is looking for an experienced Director for its Corporate Security program.
This role leads Corporate Security at Instacart and reports to the People team. This leader will oversee all aspects of corporate threat intelligence, physical security and executive/travel security. This leader will work with the People, Workplace and Engineering Security teams to shape the way Instacart thinks about and manages security across our business.
  • Build end-to-end security capabilities, working cross functionally with stakeholders to ensure the highest levels of safety and security for all personnel
  • Develop and maintain executive security and travel security programs
  • Develop physical security standards by partnering with our Workplace team & GSOC
  • Build a team that can respond to threats, incidents and emergencies and coordinate with law enforcement and security vendors
  • Continuously assess current and future security needs to manage internal and external risks

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Threat Intelligence & Response
  • Collect and analyze data to prevent and respond to security threats and emergency situations
  • Develop & oversee response matrix for security threats and emergency situations
  • Coordinate, contract and deploy security vendors as needed
  • Oversee and conduct regular risk and vulnerability assessments
  • Provide executive communication and RCAs for security incidents
  • Physical Security Operations
  • Coordinate with the Workplace Team to set physical security strategy and oversee workplace health and safety programs
  • Respond to security-related workplace issues such as threats and internal workplace related security incidents
  • Investigate any threats made to our company or personnel and liaise with law enforcement as required
  • Executive & Travel Security
  • Develop executive security strategy and employee travel security program
  • Manage vendors for executive protection
  • Understanding of travel security technology and capabilities

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience (Master's degree preferred)
  • >8+ years experience in a combination of the following: physical & personnel security, military/law enforcement, corporate risk management, emergency response management
  • Prior experience in an on-demand company is a plus
  • Proven experience effectively managing multiple KPI's, projects, and initiatives in a rapidly changing environment
  • Extremely strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex topics and create compelling narratives for various audiences
  • Excellent team building skills and desire to help others learn and grow
  • High level of accountability and ownership - driven and focused self-starter
  • Strategic mindset - ability to think ahead of where the company is at now and scale teams, product, and processes to ensure business objectives are continuously met
  • Skilled at using data to influence decision-making
  • Strong cross-functional partner — able to effectively collaborate with various business leaders, subject matter experts, and decision makers to develop data-driven policies, products, and models to improve performance across all facets of Corporate Security
  • Open to being available for on-call purposes (occasional weekend / evening escalation handling)
  • Open to occasional domestic and international travel
