You possess strong technical and development skills related to upgrading Cognos or Planning Analytics. The Technical Customer Advocate is comfortable identifying creative workarounds to customer challenges and working with developers to implement them. You have an aptitude to learn new cloud technologies and collaborate with others to design innovative solutions. You possess a can-do, no-problem-too-big-or-too-small attitude. In stressful situations, you are capable of maintaining a diplomatic approach and remaining calm when under pressure.
The Role
We are seeking a Technical Customer Advocate on our Product Development team to guide select customers through successful hybrid cloud migrations of Cognos or Planning Analytics. The Technical Customer Advocate will be the voice of the customer as they learn of the customer’s most pressing challenges, lobby on their behalf, and drive innovation back into the product to improve future migration experiences. Key responsibilities will include...

  • Be the expert in the room. Our technical customers will turn to you for hybrid cloud migration advice. Our product developers will consult with you on technology ideas to improve the migration experience. Our field practitioners will ask you, “how do migrations work?”.

  • Host cloud migration planning workshops with customers to help them architect a migration strategy and prove to them that “migrations aren’t scary” if you know what to do

  • Develop and research creative solutions to tough cloud migration challenges as you guide customers through their migration activities

  • Write blog posts, create templates, and host webinars to help build community and spread knowledge of how migrations work

  • Help Product Management and Development teams improve the migration experience by conveying feedback from the customers, technical sales, and our partner ecosystem

  • Participate in Product Development and Cloud cadence meetings to assess the impact that future releases will have on the customer migration experience

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

In addition to your strong written and verbal communication skills, you’ll possess the following…


  • 5+ years experience working with stakeholders and business users

  • 5+ years experience troubleshooting, administering or developing with either Cognos Analytics or Planning Analytics

  • Experience with planning, guiding, or troubleshooting challenges on at least 1 upgrade of Cognos Business Intelligence, Cognos Analytics, TM1 or Planning Analytics

  • Critical thinking skills on Cognos rollouts at the functional and technical levels

  • Proven analytical, planning, problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and be flexible to jump into varying projects as priorities shift throughout the product development journey

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Experience with both Cognos Analytics and Planning Analytics
  • Experience with cloud migrations of Cognos Analytics or Planning Analytics
  • Experience in java, javascript, html, c++, python or similar
