Job Description
This career level manufacturing engineer position, able to work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision, will be responsible for a variety of projects and initiatives supporting Global Manufacturing with an emphasis on automating various manufacturing process stages for a stamping facility. Primary activities include the development of manufacturing processes and integration of technologies into traditional business functions. This position is responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design, analysis, development, testing and control of engineering projects where creativity and initiative are involved as well as some independent judgment. Exercises technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a small group with specific engineering objectives. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where creativity and initiative are exercised as well as independent judgment.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with colleagues and suppliers to develop and integrate solutions for factory automation in stamping plants such as:
    • Automated Guided Vehicles
    • Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems
    • Automated Racking Systems
    • Automated Quality Inspection Systems
    • Automated Gripper Cranes
    • Automated Material Delivery
  • Develop scoping documents for factory automation projects
  • Create and evaluate business cases in support of factory automation projects
  • Manage project timing, finances and deliverables for execution of factory automation projects.
  • Develop solutions for integrating factory automation with other systems such as:
    • End of line conveyors
    • Front of line systems
    • Manually driven Mobile Equipment
  • Work with VS and IT partners to establish requirements for related controls and IT systems
  • Define system requirements and coordinate development of SOR's
  • Plans and implements test and/or development programs
  • Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Travel as required (during the execution phase of projects this could be up to 50%)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in stamping manufacturing plant (quality systems, scheduling functions, mobile equipment and crane operations)
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • High level of creativity, and analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, OneNote, Teams, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Press Systems and Related Automation

Education and Training
  • Required experience in related STEM field
  • Preferred BS, MS degree (Mechanical, Electrical and/or Computer, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, or Computer Science)
