Company Description
Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. We build, power, and evolve the tools and technologies that connect entrepreneurs with buyers around the world. We're large enough that you'll focus on meaningful, complex challenges, but small enough that you can make a rewarding impact.
Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our growing Trust & Safety team. In this role you will work with engineers, product managers, and designers to help champion our mission to “Keep Commerce Human and Safe”. Our team provides the platform that powers our Trust & Safety teams. We enable agents to keep the marketplace trustworthy and safe at scale as the number of listings and sellers continues to grow with Etsy’s success.
The technical staff at Etsy believes that code is craft, and that the work we do is part of a larger creative culture represented by the hundreds of thousands of inspired artists and designers who make Etsy such a unique marketplace. We believe that small, empowered, self-motivated teams can do big things. We primarily write in PHP and JavaScript as well as in Go and Java. Learn more about our engineering philosophies, tools, and some of the challenges we’ve been solving on our Engineering blog:
About the Role

  • The Trust & Safety engineering team works on improving the buying experience and building trust by keeping the marketplace free of sellers and items that do not comply with our policies and values.

  • Work on automating the remediation of shop issues, so that sellers have the tools and right level of information required to bring their shops into compliance without lengthy and labor intensive exchanges with Trust & Safety agents.

  • Help to build a technology portfolio that will allow the team to scale with Etsy as the number of buyers, sellers, and transactions continues to increase in the coming years.

  • Develop tools to prevent fraud and reduce the impact of fraudulent activity on Etsy and our buyers and sellers.

  • Maintain and enhance Etsy’s brand and compliance posture by neutralizing financial, regulatory and reputational risks.

  • Provide detailed and constructive design and code reviews.

  • Work cross-functionally with various engineering teams.

  • This is a full-stack position that heavily uses PHP, MySQL, JavaScript (including React), and TypeScript. Previous experience in this stack is not required, but you will need to have attention to detail and be comfortable debugging distributed systems.
