Purpose & Overall Relevance for the Organization
Manage a multi-disciplinary expert team to discover, support, and deliver sport credibility as part of a cross-functional innovation team. Manage Sport Science projects, initiatives, and relationships that maximise brand impact and athlete experience. Provide metrics and methods to ensure efficiency of research and development efforts.
Provide leadership for the Sport Science Team and Sport Science Performance Labs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor and guide Sport Scientists and oversee the Innovation Performance Labs
  • Be the conscience of good research and validation practices for adidas following globally set standards
  • Provide opportunities for innovation projects initiated from the the Sport Science team
  • Lead and manage external partnerships with University and Industry research groups as well as understanding & evaluating the landscape - define new partners to drive the innovation strategy and build a world class research network and multi-science and data insight ecosystem
  • Follow global standardized practices and reporting of the Performance Labs globally
  • Contribute to strategic direction of the overall Innovation team and immediate Sport Science team
  • Oversight of hardware and software maintenance of the lab equipment
  • Work with the Innovation Leadership teams to integrate the sport science exploration results into the project teams and ensure sport science support and validation through project delivery
  • Conceptualize and develop mid to long-term (3-10 years) Sport Science innovation initiatives, ready to be implemented within the Innovation team
  • Take responsibility for communication of a 3-10 year Sport Science Innovation Strategy
  • Provide concise and timely updates to Senior Innovation Management on innovation project, research and partnership status
  • Prepare concept and results-based reports and presentations, communicating to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Continually evaluate and evolve new methods of working 'open source', including but not limited to start-ups, university spin offs, academic research programs & funding opportunities.

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or Master’s degree in Biomechanics, Bio based Science or Engineering
  • Minimum 12 years industry relevant experience (PhD 4 years) in Research, Engineering, or similar position
  • 8 years leadership of diverse & global teams in a matrix organization
