The project manager role is part of client and project team leadership. Root project managers are masters of project management methodologies, leading projects and providing guidance to their teams on best approaches to planning, executing, and monitoring the work. Root project managers are good leaders, communicators, and problem solvers who remain calm and level-headed in difficult situations.
A Root project manager:
Loves to multi-task: Manages five to seven projects at a time in addition to internal initiatives.
Brings order to chaos: Is comfortable with ambiguity at the start of the project. Works with clients and project team members to define the best path forward and then develops and communicates the project plan.
Gets things done: Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and takes the initiative to make things better. When faced with a roadblock, looks for creative ways to say yes and make things happen.
Creates a positive project culture: Builds an open, honest, and fun project culture, holding team members accountable for their work, and is willing to have difficult conversations when necessary.
Builds relationships with clients and grows our business: Contributes to account growth by driving successful projects and building relationships with client sponsors.
Develops others: Helps spread personal passion for the Root process by coaching others formally and informally and through strong working relationships.
Project planning and initiation: Develops project plans and timelines. Works with Root project partners to gain alignment and commitment to the project plan before sharing with the client. Leverages standard Root processes and tools to maximize team productivity and reinforces use per standards.
Project execution: Manages projects to completion. Drives status meetings and reporting and proactively addresses tasks/milestones. Monitors work being done vs. the statement of work, addresses discrepancies with project leads, and proactively manages project financials.
Project close: Conducts project debrief meetings and identifies opportunities for process improvement. Identifies and follows up on additional client opportunities.
